You’ve received your portrait gallery — full of joy, emotion, and once-in-a-lifetime memories. Now what?

As your photographer, I want to make sure you enjoy these images not just today, but 30, 40, even 50 years from now. That means backing them up now, before life moves on and hard drives fail or phones get upgraded. Here’s how to protect your memories with two reliable storage methods:
1. Store Them on a Solid State Drive (SSD)
An SSD is like a super-powered external hard drive. Unlike older hard drives, SSDs have no moving parts, making them faster, quieter, and less prone to failure.
How to use it:
- Buy a reliable SSD (I recommend brands like Samsung or SanDisk. Here’s a link to my current favorite!).
- Plug it into your computer and drag your full wedding gallery folder over.
- Eject it safely when you’re done.
- Store it somewhere safe and dry (even better—store it in a fireproof box!).
✨ Bonus tip: Label it with your names and wedding/session date so you always know what it is!
2. Back Them Up to the Cloud
Cloud storage is a must. If something happens to your physical copy, you’ll be glad you saved a digital version online.
Top options:
- Google Drive: Easy to use, and you can share albums with family.
- Dropbox: Great for organizing and accessing from any device.
- Backblaze or iDrive: Automatic backups, especially if you’re not the DIY type.
How to use it:
- Upload your full gallery folder to a dedicated folder in the cloud.
- Make sure sharing settings are private unless you’re sending it to someone.
- Check it once a year to make sure it’s still accessible.
To Recap…
Save your photos in at least two places: one physical (like an SSD) and one cloud-based. This simple step can prevent heartache years down the road. Your wedding day deserves to live on.
One Last Thing!
I have a love-hate relationship with technology, because even with multiple backups, digital is always intangible. In my opinion, the best way to preserve (and revisit!) your memories from your wedding day or photos session is through a physical album. You can order those through me (check out the details here!) or print it yourself, but whatever you do — make sure you print your photos! This is the best way you can enjoy your memories for years to come!
(But again… please back up your digital files too!)
